UK statutory notice period rules

Under the Employment Rights Act 1996, the statutory minimum notice period depends on your length of continuous employment. Employees with less than one month of service are not entitled to statutory notice. After one month you are entitled to one week. After two or more years you receive one week per year of service, up to a maximum of 12 weeks after 12 or more years. These are minimums — your contract may specify a longer notice period which your employer must honour.
