Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and the selected nation's bank holidays. Bank holiday coverage: 2026–2028. Calendar day calculations work outside those years.
All totals use your selected counting option. Approximate months = calendar days ÷ 30.44; approximate years = calendar days ÷ 365.25. These are estimates, not complete calendar months or years.
How are the days calculated?
Calendar days count every day in your selected range, including weekends and bank holidays. Choose how to count the dates:
- Exclude earlier date, include later date: the default setting. Monday to Tuesday counts as 1 day.
- Include both dates: Monday to Tuesday counts as 2 days.
If you enter the dates in reverse order, the calculator puts them in chronological order before applying your chosen counting option.
Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays for your selected UK nation: England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland. The calculator includes bank holiday dates for 2026–2028. If your counted range extends outside those years, calendar totals still work, but working-day and bank holiday totals are shown as unavailable.
Full weeks are complete groups of seven calendar days. Approximate months are calculated by dividing calendar days by 30.44, and approximate years by 365.25. These decimal figures are estimates rather than counts of complete calendar months or years.
Worked examples
Counting calendar days
From 3 March to 17 March 2026, the default setting gives 14 calendar days. Choose “Include both dates” and the total becomes 15 calendar days.
Counting working days over Easter
Select 3 April to 7 April 2026, choose England and Wales, and select “Include both dates”. The result is:
- 5 calendar days
- 2 weekend days
- 2 bank holidays: Good Friday and Easter Monday
- 1 working day: Tuesday 7 April
Choose Scotland with the same dates and counting option, and the result becomes 2 working days, because Easter Monday is not a Scottish bank holiday.
With the default option, 3 April is excluded. The calendar total becomes 4 days, while the working-day totals stay the same because Good Friday was already excluded from working days.
Common questions
Does the count include today?
Yes — both the start and end dates are included as full days in the calendar day count.
Why does the months figure look like a decimal?
Because months don’t all have the same number of days, showing an exact decimal (rather than rounding to a whole number) gives you a more accurate answer than “3 months” would.
Does the working days count include Scottish or Northern Irish bank holidays?
No — this calculator uses England and Wales bank holidays. If you need Scotland or Northern Ireland dates, the figures will differ slightly, since some holidays (like St Andrew’s Day or St Patrick’s Day) only apply there.
